Thomas Stafford's Freshman Recital
Thomas Stafford gave his first full solo recital at Oberlin last week, in our most common space for the purpose, Fairchild Chapel. He played a range of pieces he’d studied this year, and was well-rewarded for his efforts by an enthusiastic audience. Thomas attracted a good-sized crowd of friends and well-wishers for his performance.

He opened with two works of Dowland, a style of music particularly well-suited to the space. Played with a capo, the notes resonated beautifully in the room. (Full program at the end of the post).
He followed with Giuliani’s Variations, Op 107. The audience loved it.
Next, Thomas played the first of Pujol’s Suites del Plata. His handling of the rhythms was solid and his expressive delivery of the cancion sections was convincing.
He closed his program with the second Prelude of Villa-Lobos. It was a terrific first outing.
Congratulations, Thomas, and we look forward to your next time on stage!
