Craig Slagh's Sophomore Recital

Craig Slagh's Sophomore Recital

Craig gave his second full solo recital at Oberlin on May 7; it was a program replete with serious, difficult music in a wide range of styles. Craig proved again how confident and musical a player he is in this highly polished performance. He delivered the Barrios Valses with sensitivity and flair, and the Bach landed with appropriate gravitas and impressive precision. He played a gorgeous slow movement of the classic Morel Sonatina and his Turina Sonata was masterful. The program ended with a work by his former teacher, Jeremy Collins. It is a piece constructed around an extraordinary scordatura, with most strings set at new pitches, and features some beautiful harmony in a way few young guitarist-composers write. Craig played it with confidence and thoughtful sensitivity. Bravo on a terrific program!

Here are a few photos from the evening; the full program follows. (Note: the hall he played in, Fairchild Chapel, while superlative for sound, has insufficient lighting; my camera could not grab clear shots in the dim light of the room).
