Caeli Massey's Junior Recital

Caeli was the first student in my studio who had to play her program solely through a livestream. She gave the performance during the summer, so this is a delayed post about it. We were all crestfallen that the concert had to take place without a live audience, but by now we are plenty used to this new unfortunate reality.

Here she is, getting the setup sorted out. Now we have to be musicians plus master a bit of technology…

Her program was fantastic: the lovely 19th c. Coste gem, La Source du Lyson, Domeniconi’s iconic Koyunbaba, Brouwer’s bestseller El Decameron Negro and Bach’s indispensable Lute Suite, BWV 996 (full program below). Caeli played each piece with impressive command and much originality. She always brings her unique artistic voice to her interpretations and in this performance she was joyfully all-in, in spite of playing for the camera instead of a room full of people. It was odd watching the real-time scroll of well-wishers but strangely nice, too. Especially as it was clear she had fans all across the country and the world.

This is what the concert looked like:

And here is Caeli’s program:

Congratulations, Caeli, on a brilliant performance and, with some luck, maybe your next one will be in front of some live humans!!
